Lawrence Molloy

Lawrence Molloy is an engineer with knowledge and connections across the renewables storage and generation sector. He has had terms in government, industry and academia. Until recently he was with the Victorian Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action’s Energy Group where he  assisted in investment attraction and project facilitation across the energy sector.  His areas of focus included pumped hydro, compressed air energy storage, and a range of battery systems including BESS, flow batteries and neighbourhood batteries.   

Prior to joining the Victorian Public Service, he was an Enterprise Fellow at the School of Engineering at the University of Melbourne where he focused on industrial research projects and coordinated research with multiple Traditional Owner Corporations.  With the World Bank he served as client engineer for a range of water and irrigation projects in India and Indonesia.  For almost 20 years he worked with EBARA Corporation of Japan on a range of technology market analysis and industrial partner engagements in the water and power sector including waste to energy, geothermal, bio-energy, flywheels and energy recovery systems.  As a federal officer with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, he was awarded a Gold Medal for Exceptional Service for his work on civil rights and the environment.   

Lawrence graduated with honours from Colgate University and holds a Master’s degree in Engineering from Stanford University.  He is a Scott M. Johnson Fellow of the US – Japan Foundation and a Fellow with the Australian Institute of Energy.
